South Thomaston man sentenced for pharmacy robbery
Rockland — A 29-year-old South Thomaston man was sentenced to seven years in prison with all but 21 months suspended Aug. 26 after pleading guilty to robbing Jensen's Pharmacy in July 2012.
Michael Willis was convicted of Class B robbery and and unlawful possession of oxycodone. For the robbery count, Willis was sentenced to serve seven years in prison, and for the unlawful possession of drugs count, he was sentenced to 24 months in prison. Two counts, Class A aggravated trafficking in drugs, and stealing drugs were dismissed. Willis will be placed on three years probation upon his release.
In February, Willis initially pleaded not guilty to all four charges.
The robbery at Jensen's Pharmacy on Camden Street occurred the afternoon of July 31, when a male, dressed in a fedora and pin-striped suit, passed a note to the pharmacist demanding drugs, according to police.
The note requested "oxys," or oxycodone pills in 15 and 30 milligram tablets. At the bottom of the note, the word "guns" was written, according to a police affidavit filed in Knox County Superior Court.
The cost to replace the drugs was $139, said court papers. Willis was also ordered by Justice Jeffrey Hjelm to pay $139 in restitution to the pharmacy.
Willis was implicated as a suspect from information garnered from cellphone records and DNA testing, according to Rockland Police Department Detective Russ Thompson.
Cellphone records, obtained through a search warrant, showed two calls were made near the pharmacy on Willis' phone shortly before the robbery.
A jacket and hat found near the crime scene, along with DNA samples from Willis, were sent to the Maine State Police Crime Lab for comparison. The samples were a match, according to court documents.
Willis was represented by Rockland attorney Eric B. Morse.
