Some Vivi & Wagner...
SOUTH THOMASTON — I am continueing my presentation of Finnish comic strips ("Sarjakuvat") by publishing a current issue of "Vivi ja Wagner". This is quite popular in Finland, and it is based upon a rather weird relationship between a young lady and her male friend. The male character is a bit strange, because he is obviously a pig?!
In this episode, they are argueing about Vivi studying Italian before she departs on her upcoming vacation.
I have just realized that I outsmarted myself on this one, as there is one Finnish word in here that I cannot translate! It appears in the last sentence by Vivi, and it is "sopo". Each "o" also has a diacrtic mark over it, which this system doesn't handle. So, can anyone out there translate that word for all of us?
There was one other strange word spoken by Vivi in that last scene, which translates to jealousy. A literal translation in English would be "black stockings"!
So...did we all learn something today?
