Snow postpones Busline League small school playoffs

Games scheduled for Jan. 16 pushed back

The Busline League middle school small school division playoffs are underway, but have been slowed due to a heavy snow hitting the Midcoast on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Three of the four quarterfinal playoff games slated for Wednesday have been postponed and the fourth could be moved as well.

On the boys side, No. 8 Jefferson at No. 1 Vinalhaven, along with No. 5 Lincolnville at No. 4 Appleton, have been postponed, while on the girls side, No. 7 South Bristol at No. 2 Vinalhaven has also been postponed.

The boys game featuring No. 6 Bristol Blue at No. 3 Nobleboro is still on as scheduled for Jan. 16, but also may be moved.

The quarterfinals were slated to begin Wednesday, Jan. 16 and Thursday, Jan. 17 before Wednesday's snow pushed back a handful of quarterfinal contests.

The semifinals are on tap for Wednesday, Jan. 23 and the league championships will be played Saturday, Jan. 26 at Camden-Rockport Middle School.

The updated quarterfinal girls matchups include: No. 8 Appleton at No. 1 Woolwich on Jan. 17 at 3:45 p.m.; No. 7 South Bristol at No. 2 Vinalhaven on Friday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m.; and No. 5 Lincolnville at No. 4 Hope on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 3:45 p.m.

No. 3 Bristol defeated No. 6 Nobleboro in a quarterfinal game Jan. 14 at Bristol.

No. 8 Appleton bested No. 9 Jefferson, while No. 7 South Bristol defeated No. 10 Islesboro in prelim playoff games Jan. 14. Information from those contests was unavailable.

The updated quarterfinal boys matchups include: No. 8 Jefferson at No. 1 Vinalhaven on Friday, Jan. 18, time unavailable; No. 7 Bristol White at No. 2 Woolwich on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m.; No. 6 Bristol Blue at No. 3 Nobleboro on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 5 p.m.; and No. 5 Lincolnville at No. 4 Appleton on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 3:45 p.m.

No. 8 Jefferson defeated No. 9 Hope (see information below), while No. 7 Bristol White bested No. 10 Islesboro in prelim playoff games Jan. 14.

Boys playoff

No. 8 Jefferson 39, No. 9 Hope 19

At Jefferson Jan. 14, the Chargers bolted into the quarterfinals with a 20-point triumph over the Hawks. Jefferson led 15-2, 20-10 and 29-13 at the quarter breaks.

Dan Peabody netted six points for Hope, while Wade Reynolds added five; Dawson Roberts, four; and Brian Gunn and Joergen Ostensen, both two.

For Jefferson, John Henry poured in 20 points, while Ryan Creamer added 11; Raymond Mash, six; and Dakota Peaslee, two.

The Hawks were 3-of-10 (30 percent) from the foul line, while the Chargers were 3-of-6 (50 percent).
