Simulated Emergency Test to take place Saturday

Oct 18, 2016

Rockland — “A major ice storm has hit Maine and all normal communications have been interrupted” is a statement we aren’t excited to hear. This sets the stage and is the scenario behind this year’s statewide Simulated Emergency Test, or SET, being held Saturday, Oct. 22.

Operating from town fire stations, the County Emergency Operations Center and from a backup facility in Union, volunteers from the Knox County emergency communications team will test equipment and procedures necessary to relay emergency messages and other critical information between towns, around the state and across the country.

Also participating in the Maine event will be teams from Lincoln, Waldo and Washington counties. The SET is conducted annually under the auspices of the Amateur Radio Relay League and their participating local partners.

For information on how to become an emergency communications volunteer, contact the Knox County EMA office at 594-5155 or email info@penbayarc.org.
