Shooters hit marks in Elks Hoop Shoot

Five Midcoast youths qualify for district competition

Rockland — Thirty-five youngsters ages 8-13 competed in the Elks National Foundation Hoop Shoot contest on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Rockland Recreation Center, as all vied for sharpshooting supremacy.

Hosted by the Rockland Elks Lodge #1008, the contestants were placed in three age groups (8-9, 10-11 and 12-13) and attempted 25 free throws, with those with the highest number made deemed the winner.

In the girls competitions, Kaitlyn Feltis of Pemaquid won the ages 12-13 division by netting 14-of-25 (56 percent), while Hannah Benner of Cushing won the 10-11 division by making 10-of-25 (40 percent).

In the boys competition, Trevor Reed of Rockland won the 12-13 division by netting 18-of-25 (72 percent), while Cameron Kingsbury of Port Clyde won the 10-11 division by making 12-of-25 (48 percent). Hunter Norton of Rockland won the 8-9 division, as he converted 16-of-25 (64 percent).

The winners qualified for the district competition on Sunday, Jan. 12 at Oceanside High School East in Rockland.
