Camden — A practice run on the course for the "Set the Pace" 5-kilometer road race will be Saturday, Dec. 29 at 9 a.m. from the Smokestack Bar & Grille.

The first Midcoast road race of the new year is set to take off Tuesday, Jan. 1. Bring, and ring, in 2013 with style and participate in the annual "Set the Pace" 5K.

Preregister and receive a special souvenir and be eligible for hundreds of dollars of raffle prizes.

An 11:11 a.m. start, on the lower end of Mechanic Street near the Smokestack Bar & Grille, makes it easy to get up from the New Year's Eve festivities and promises to start the year on the right foot (feet).

The course includes gentle rolling hills with a downhill finish.

"We promise you will set your 2013 personal record," said race director Reade Brower.

Runners of all abilities, walkers, friendly dogs and others are welcomed, Brower said. Enjoy the Smokestack Grille after the race with free pizza and other goodies.
