Most people see the necessity of exercising some level of discipline in their lives. For example, we may have a need to control a bad temper, or want to cease over-eating, or stop spending money we really don't have. In addition to stopping any kind of bad behavior, we may see a need to focus our talents and energy toward accomplishing a good project or goal. Another way of defining discipline is self-government. In her textbook on Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy talks about the importance of self-government and how we can attain it. She writes, “God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-government, reason, and conscience. Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love” (p. 106)

Join Evan Mehlenbacher, a Christian Science practitioner and teacher, in a live Sentinel chat where he answers questions about self-government—What is it? How can we exercise it? And what is its true source? Discover how you too can turn to God and understand your true God-governed spiritual nature and the freedom this brings.
