Senior College tour of Bowdoin Museum of Art
Brunswick — The Coastal Senior College Events Committee is sponsoring an afternoon at Bowdoin Museum of Art to view some of the highlights of the Herb and Dorothy Vogel donation of works by iconic artists representing the evolving history of minimal, post-minimal and conceptual art.
The private tour by a docent is set for Thursday, Sept. 4, beginning at 3:30 p.m., followed at 4:30 p.m. by the short documentary “Herb & Dorothy 50 X 50” in the Kresge Auditorium at the Visual Arts Center. This film captures the last chapter of the Vogels’ extraordinary life and their gift to the nation, raising various questions on art and what it takes to support art in today’s society. The movie will be followed by a discussion with film director Megumi Sasaki and with Dorothy Vogel herself.
Those who wish to take part must register by Friday, Aug. 29, by calling (800) 286-1594. Admission to the program is free to CSC members, their guests and members of the public. Those registered should plan to arrive in the (lower level) museum registration area by 3:15 p.m.
