Senior College art course at Rocky Coast
Thomaston — John Chandler is offering a Coastal Senior College course this fall at his home, Rocky Coast House, 124 Booker St. Is It Something in the Water? Artists of Knox County will explore the Midcoast’s rich visual arts tradition via discussion, films and visits from guest artists.
Subjects will include Louise Nevelson, William Thon, Blackie Langlais, Paul Caponigro, Robert Indiana, Alex Katz, Charles DuBach, Olive Pierce, Lois Dodd, Alan Magee, Robert Hamilton, Stell Shevis and William Martin. Chandler has been a director of the former Maine Coast Artists in Rockport and Lincoln Street Center in Rockland. The eight-week class will meet Mondays from 2 to 4 p.m., starting Sept. 23.
To register, call the Coastal Senior College office at University College at Rockland, 596-6906. Membership in CSC is required, but it is only $25 a year; course fees are generally $30. CSC instructors are all volunteers, as is all staff (except for a paid employee at URock). Those with an area of expertise they wish to share with others are asked to consider joining CSC as an instructor or inquire about other volunteer jobs in the organization.
