Self as Other poetry workshop
Tenants Harbor — Self as Other: The Self-Portrait Poem, a free poetry workshop with Kimberly Cloutier Green, will be presented Thursday, Nov. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Jackson Memorial Library, 71 Main St./Route 131.
This writing workshop, open to all, will experiment with the self-portrait poem as a way of exploring “the self” as subject; metaphor will be the medium and form, the brushstroke. Participants will be offered a variety of prompts for the creation of a self-portrait poem during the workshop period.
Beginning and long-practicing writers welcome. Participants are asked to bring writing materials they enjoy using to the workshop. To register, call the library at 372-8961.
Green of Kittery Point is a poet, collaborating artist and teacher, the first-place prizewinner in a number of competitions including the Aldrich Poetry Prize. That prize included the publication of her chapbook, “What Becomes of Words.” A recent Pushcart Prize nominee, Green has had poems published in several literary journals including Mid-American Review, The Aurorean, The Café Review, The Comstock Review, Presence, Vineyards and The Anthology of New England Writers.
She was selected in 2005 for the Maine Community Foundation’s Martin Dibner Fellowship in Poetry, and she is a MacDowell Fellow. Green’s first full-length collection of poems, “The Next Hunger,” was released in April by Bauhan Publishing/UPNE. She is the ninth Poet Laureate of the City of Portsmouth, N.H.
