Angelina Seiders, a seventh-grader at Thomaston Grammar School, won the Hemingway Award at the 2014 Winter Games at Sugarloaf.

Thomaston — Angelina Seiders, a seventh-grader at Thomaston Grammar School, was chosen to receive the Frank Hemingway Award at the 2014 Special Olympic of Maine Winter Games at Sugarloaf.

This award is not based on athletic skill or what medals a person receives but is given to the athlete who displays courage, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, determination, effort, and those intangibles that help this individual stand out from other competitors at the Snowshoe Venue, according to a news release from TGS.

Snowshoeing is the largest venue at the games, with nearly 200 athletes competing each year. To stand out in such a large group is not easy, but the officials from the venue had no problem recognizing Seiders as someone who stood out from the crowd.
