'Secret Life of Words' on screen
Thomaston — Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings Fridays at 7 p.m. in the community room, right down the hall from the series' original location (Room 208), of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1.
Continuing July's showcase of courage within, the July 13 film is "The Secret Life of Words," an 115-minute movie from 2005. After surviving the war in Yugoslavia, taciturn nurse Hanna (Sarah Polley) heads to Ireland for some relaxation. But when she hears about an oil-rig accident off the coast, she agrees to tend to a heroic burn victim (Tim Robbins). The encounter changes both their lives in this compelling and critically acclaimed film directed by Pedro Almodovar.
Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. The Thomaston Academy Building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
