Second Heroin/Opiate Community Forum Wednesday, October 26
On October 26, 2016, from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Rockland City Council Chambers, Knox County Community Health Coalition and the Maine Medical Association will host a second Heroin/Opiate Addiction Community Forum.
At the first community meeting on February 4th , nearly 200 community members came together for a facilitated discussion about the growing addiction crisis and make recommendations to the Task Forces that had been convened by the U.S. Attorney for Maine, the Maine Attorney General, and the Maine Commissioner of Public Safety. In May of this year the Task Force released their roadmap for federal, state and local actions that should be taken in the areas of prevention, treatment, harm reduction and law enforcement.
This second forum will start with a few members of the Task Force presenting their proposals for reducing the devastation of opiate misuse and addiction in Maine. Then we will open the conversation to hear your reactions, suggestions and observations about the opportunities and challenges to being successful. This is your opportunity to provide your thoughts on what’s going to be needed in Washington D.C. and in Augusta, and identify the action steps we can take here in Knox County.
Candidates running for local and state office will be invited by the Maine Medical Association to attend this meeting with the community. This meeting gives our policymakers the opportunity to hear firsthand not only the Task Force’s recommendations, but your experiences and suggestions.
All members of the community, including our young people, are invited to attend and participate in this discussion facilitated by Carol Kelly, Pivot Point, Inc. who facilitated our February meeting. We need YOUR VOICE.
Please join us for this important discussion about what’s happening and what we can all do about heroin/opiate use and the impacts it’s having in our communities.
When: Wednesday, October 26, 2016, 5:30-7:30 pm
Where: Rockland City Council Chambers, 270 Pleasant Street, Rockland.
Light Refreshments will be available from 5:00-5:30 pm.
