Photographer Peter Ralston's first artist’s talk at Archipelago Fine Arts Gallery on August 9 was such a success that he’s coming back for an encore presentation on Wednesday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m. A master raconteur, Ralston has a treasure trove of stories behind his iconic images of the Maine coast, several of which are now on display at the gallery through October 25.
This talk is part of the premiere exhibition of Ralston’s Master Prints, a numbered, open edition of larger prints selected for their personal significance to the artist and their ability to print beautifully as 24" x 36" prints. Ralston prints all of his own works, exceeding museum standards; he also hand-titles, numbers and signs each print in the Master Prints series.
Since 1978, Ralston has photographed the Maine coast extensively, especially the working communities that define coastal Maine’s character. His work has been seen in countless books and magazines, featured on network television and exhibited in galleries, collections and museums throughout the United States and abroad.
Behind each of Ralston’s stunning photographs is an engaging tale drawn from his encounters with some of the coast’s most intriguing characters and natural wonders. Last month’s standing-room-only audience went away with a new appreciation for the special places and people that have drawn artists, poets and nature lovers to the Maine coast for centuries. Ralston’s encore appearance is once again a free event; refreshments will be served and no advance reservations are required, although early arrival is encouraged.
