Camden — Ruth (Levine) Starr, 93, a longtime resident of Camden, died Monday, March 24, 2014, following a brief illness at the home of her daughter Lisa Connolly in Brunswick.
Born in Bronx, N.Y., she was the second child of Bernard and Hannah Levine. She had a long and happy marriage to Arnold Starr — they celebrated their 70th anniversary together last October. Having lived in New York, New Jersey and Texas, the Starrs moved to Camden in 1988, where they have lived ever since, most recently at Camden Hills Villas.
She is survived by her husband Arnold and three children: Laurence of Camden and his wife Ellen; Douglas of Brookline, Mass. and his wife Monica Sidor, and Lisa Connolly of Brunswick and her husband Daniel. She leaves five grandchildren: Lindsay Starr, Noah Starr, Gordon Starr, Gregory Starr and Mitchell Connolly; and two great-grandchildren: Addison and Hazel Feinman. She is predeceased by Mitchell Starr (son), Shirley Fox (sister) and Julien LeVine (brother).
Ruth's joy was spending time with her husband, Arnold, completing crossword puzzles in record times, and nurturing her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed handicrafts, gardening and had a marvelous green thumb: everything she touched grew and flourished, including her family. She loved beachcombing on Maine's rocky coasts with her grand-kids and great-grand-kids. She was very proud of her children working in different fields of education. Everyone whose lives she touched loved her for the song in her heart, the smile on her face and her mischievous sense of humor.
The family will hold a celebration of her life at Beauchamp Point in Rockport, at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, honoring Ruth's name with a donation to the nonprofit charity, God's Love We Deliver in New York City would be greatly appreciated (glwd.org) or to Make a Wish (maine.wish.org/).
The family especially wishes to thank the staff at Camden Hills Villas, who made Ruth and Arnold’s months there such happy ones.
