Running the crates at the Camden Windjammer Festival
Camden — A total of 30 brave souls, ranging in age from small children to senior citizens, competed in the Lobster Crate Race Saturday, Sept. 1 at Camden Harbor as part of the 14th annual Camden Windjammer Festival.
Taking the first place trophy in the event was Cedar Andrus, 12, of Camden who ran over 264 crates.
In second place was Lauren Rothwell, 11, of Camden, covering 261 crates, and third went to Michael Brerman, 9, of Florida with 255 crates.
A large crowd gathered to watch the event along the shoreline and from boats in the harbor. Harbormaster Steve Pixley offered colorful commentary while announcing results at the races. The event was organized by Seth Silverton, according to Windjammer Festival Chairwoman Emily Lusher.
The festival enjoyed perfect sunny weather Saturday and drew a large number of spectators. Camden's downtown businesses and sidewalks were filled with end of summer visitors.
Entertainment included everything from street musicians to people dressed as pirates.
