Ronald E. Wilbur
Lafayette, Calif. — Ronald E. Wilbur, local businessman and longtime summer-plus resident, passed at his home in Lafayette, Calif. this past winter.
Ron was a native Californian, but when Pete Reed was running for reelection as harbormaster in Owls Head, Ron changed his residency to Maine so that he could vote in the election. He died a Maine resident.
J. Marie Martin Table Pads was his manufacturing business. Ron opened a plant here in the Rockland Industrial Park. That plant quickly matched the production of the California plant thanks to the skill of the Maine workers Ron hired locally.
An avid sailor, Ron's first boat was a Peapod (they can only go with the wind so it involved a lot of rowing) hand built by a native of Rockport. Four boats later Ron died owning his dreamboat, a 38-foot blue water sailboat. He was a member of Rockland Yacht Club and the Ginn and Tonic Yacht Club of Owls Head.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, four children and eight grandchildren, who love to return to the house on the shore at Crescent Beach, Owls Head.
