Ronald Dexter Wadsworth Sr.
VINALHAVEN — Ronald Dexter Wadsworth Sr., 75, passed away July 21, 2011, surrounded by his family, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Mary Lou, on Vinalhaven.
Born on April 27, 1936, on Vinalhaven, he was the son of Robert T. and Emeline Lawry Wadsworth. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Charlie Polk.
Dexter left high school early to join the U.S. Army, serving in Korea in the mid-1950s. He completed his high school education, receiving his GED while serving in the Armed Forces. He was a member of the American Legion.
Dexter loved his island and spent many of his working years as a lobsterman there, and in his retirement spent endless hours in his shop building model ships. He was a true craftsman with a great eye for detail. He also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and word searches, as well as reading stores that were Western themed or about the sea. Dexter will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those who knew and loved him.
Dexter is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Lucy Bickford Wadsworth; three sons, Ronald Jr. and his wife, Manuela, of Altdorf, Germany, Lawrence and his wife, Mary Lou, and Bub and his wife, Mary Grace, all of Vinalhaven; three daughters, Lori-Jean Chick of Rochester, N.H., Kathy Roth of Rockland and Sheila Silvestri and her husband, Cullen, of Thompson, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jen, Robert, Stephanie, Christina, Mary Beth, Raliegh, Ronnie, Sam and Clint; 11 great-grandchildren, Trenton, Adelle, Triton, Wyatt, Kaden, Orion, Kayleb, Harley, Zaymus, Angel and Raliegh Jr.; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his little “shop buddy,” Stormy.
A graveside service on Vinalhaven will be held at a later date.
