WARREN — Roger A. Simmons Sr., 69, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, following a long illness.

Born in Damariscotta on Jan. 9, 1943, he was the son of Amos and Bertha Wellman Simmons. Raised in Friendship, Roger was a 1961 graduate of Waldoboro High School.

Following high school, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was trained to decode highly secure messages. He spent several years in Puerto Rico and was discharged in 1965.

Upon his discharge, Roger returned to Friendship where he met the love of his life, Linda Maxcy. The two were married July 7, 1966. Together they made their home in Friendship for nine years before moving to Massachusetts for three years. The couple returned to Warren where they have since resided. Roger worked for several years at National Sea Products as a night watchmen and engineer. They were members of the Prophetic Destiny Ministries.

Roger loved fishing and hunting, especially with his brothers. He was an avid bass fisherman.

Roger loved the Red Sox, and also enjoyed watching the “Happy Painter” on television.

Predeceased by his parents, Roger is survived by his wife, Linda Simmons of Warren; his sons, Roger Simmons Jr. and Tina of Rockland, Harlan Simmons and his wife, Kim, of Friendship; his daughters, Suzette Rumney and her husband, Mark, of Belfast, Juanita Main and her husband, Randall, of Waldoboro; a nephew, Michael Maxcy of Isle au Haut who was like a son; his brothers, Albert Simmons and his wife, Peggy, and Richard Simmons, all of Friendship; five grandchildren, Shylo Wall of Waldoboro, Shane Rumney of Belfast, Shelden Simmons of Rockland, and Dylan Davis and Madison Greenrose of Friendship; 18 nieces and nephews; as well as several aunts and uncles.

A graveside celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6 at Old Village Cemetery, Friendship. Pastor Roy Roden will officiate.
