The Friends of Rockport Public Library announces that the first of this year’s Seafaring Series will be “Single Handed Sailors: Why and How They Do It.”
This panel presentation will be at the downstairs meeting room of the Rockport Opera House on Thursday, October 18 at 7:00 pm
Midcoast Maine is home port to an incredibly intrepid breed of sailor— those that sail and race long distances offshore ALONE. Taming a spinnaker in a squall in the middle of the Gulf Stream at 2:00 AM is what they are about. Sleep deprivation is what they are about. Pushing their boats to and beyond their limits offshore is what they are about. Tom Amory, Patrick Jones, Peter McCrea, and Doug Pope have between them dozens of singlehanded Bermuda races, a few Atlantic Circles and scores of other blue water conquests to relate to the audience. Don’t miss it!
The Seafaring Series is open to the public and free, although donations are welcome.
The next presentation, on Thursday, November 1, will be Captain Aaron Lincoln of the Schooner Olad, on “A Day in the Life of a Schooner Captain.” For more information, call the Rockport Public Library at 236-3642
