Rockport library open house Nov. 6
Rockport — The public is invited to an open house at Rockport Public Library to say farewell to Molly Larson, library director for the past eight years.
The event is Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. with a special presentation at 5:15 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
"For eight years, Molly Larson has provided outstanding service to the people of Rockport and the patrons of Rockport Public Library," said Kathleen Meil, chairman of the Library Committee, which is co-hosting the event with Friends of Rockport Library and the library's staff. "Please join us to say farewell to Molly, celebrate her accomplishments, and thank her for her superb leadership, innovation and dedication."
Larson's eight-year tenure was marked by incredible growth in every measurable library statistic and by a remarkable expansion in programming, making Rockport Public Library an important learning center and resource for people of all ages, interests and needs, according to a news release from the library.
For example, circulation grew by more than 59 percent; attendance by more than 110 percent; and programs by more than 576 percent. Much of this was made possibly by Larson's perseverance and skill at securing foundation grants and business and personal donations, which cover all library costs other than staff salaries and benefits.
The open house will include opportunities to share sentiments and memories and to say farewell directly. (Larson's last day as director will be Thursday, Nov. 7.) The public is encouraged to bring cards with favorite reminiscences, but no gifts!
