Rockport eliminates Waldoboro as playoffs swing in
Rockport — The Midcoast Babe Ruth League baseball postseason is underway with one quarterfinal contest in the books.
Only one game was on the docket for Monday, July 7, a contest that saw No. 4 Rockport defend its home field and upend No. 5 Waldoboro 11-5.
Rockport will face the winner of the Wednesday, July 9 quarterfinal game between No. 1 Waldo County and No. 9 Camden, a contest that will start at 5:30 p.m.
The other two quarterfinals will play out Tuesday, July 8 as No. 7 Damariscotta Lions will travel to face No. 2 Swan Lake Grocery, while No. 6 Union Farm Equipment will travel to face No. 3 Rockland Café in a pair of 5:30 p.m. starts.
Semifinal playoff encounters will be Monday, July 14 at the sites of the two highest remaining seeds, while the championship game will be on Wednesday, July 16 at 5 p.m. at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro.

At Rockport July 7, Rockport pulled away with a five-run fifth inning and eliminated Waldoboro with a six-run victory. Rockport scored three runs in the second inning, one in the fourth, five in the fifth and two in the sixth, while Waldoboro scored one run in the second and seventh innings and three in the fifth.
Leading Rockport at the plate wre Ionut Lodge (2 hits, 5 RBIs), Nick Denny (2 hits, 3 runs, RBI), Cameron Gushee (hit, 2 runs, RBI), Jesse Fraser (2 runs), Spencer Johndro (hit, run, 3 RBIs), Will Karod (run), and Isaac Hall (run, RBI).
For Waldoboro, Isaac Eutsler (hit), Wyatt Post (run), Brown (hit, 2 runs, RBI), Owen Gilbert (hit, run, 2 RBIs), Channing Soper (hit, RBI), Adam Eutsler (hit, run), Brent Stewart (hit) and Nick Hill (RBI) paced the offense.
Gushee pitched for Rockport, allowing six hits and seven walks, with five strikeouts. Gilbert and Stewart pitched for Waldoboro, allowing a combined six hits.
