Rockland Wal-Mart may have buyer
Rockland — The question of just who will occupy the 94,000-square-foot building once Wal-Mart vacates its current home on Camden Street may now be answered.
The Rhode Island-based Ocean State Job Lot signed a purchase and sales agreement May 2.
"I am extremely happy to see a business ready to take over once Wal-Mart leaves our city limits," said Rockland Mayor William Clayton.
"I am grateful to Wal-Mart for the time they have been here and also that they proactively and expeditiously found a new tenant," he said.
Wal-Mart plans to complete its move to its new 150,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Superstore in Thomaston by October.
There are currently four other Job Lot locations in Maine and 109 throughout New England. The closest is in Belfast.
The retail store sells diverse merchandise which changes frequently. Items from $1 to $1,999 can be seen in their weekly fliers, with manager specials pushing limited items.
"I look forward to meeting the new management of Ocean State Job Lot and fostering a productive relationship," Clayton said.
