Rockland Shorts: Ageless and Timeless

Rockland — Farnsworth Art Museum and the Strand Theatre will present the second 2014 showing of the international short film series Rockland Shorts Friday, Sept. 5, as this month’s First Friday Film. The Ageless and Timeless program screening will take place at the Strand, 345 Main St., at 8 p.m. After the showing, the audience is invited to continue discussing the films at FOG Bar & Café, on the opposite side of Main Street.

Rockland Shorts: An International Short Film Series is an ongoing series of short creative films that screens about an hour of short films. As part of the screening, select filmmakers will join in a discussion at the Strand in person or via Skype for a conversation with the audience. Rockland Shorts strives to show contemporary, questing, independent films that help define the digital generation without restriction of culture, format, formula or genre.

The Ageless and Timeless lineup will offer the experimental “Two Points of Failure” (US/Israel); “Mr. Plastimme” (England, animation); “Anacos (Pieces)” (Spain, narrative/live action); “Sleight of Hand” (Australia, stop motion); “Little Bird and The Leaf” (Switzerland, animation); “Ghost Train” (Australia, documentary/live action); “Le Mime (Brazil, narrative/live action); the experimental “Pas De Trois” (Iceland); and “A Girl Named Elastika (English version)” (French/Canada, stop motion).

This series is organized by the Farnsworth Art Museum’s Education Department. Film selections are made by visiting program director Sally Levi; Roger Dell, the Farnsworth’s director of education; Sarah ruddy, executive director of the Strand Theatre; broadcast journalist and Maine Media Workshops film faculty member Mimi Edmunds; and director, cinematographer, editor and educator Daniel Quintanilla.

Tickets will be for sale at the Strand’s box office directly prior to the screening for $8.50, $7.50 for museum members.
