Rockland Kiwanis Club Meeting Minutes for January 14, 2013
President Elect Katie Tarbox called the meeting to order. Jackie Harjula offered our invocation. Guests included Broo Temple and Bill Packard (both of whom have membership applications pending) and Alan Carr.
The Chamber After Hours presented by Kiwanis and Rock Harbor was a success, with about 150 people in attendance. There is a board meeting on 1/16/13 at which we'll be voting on Broo Temple and Bill Packard. Club officers are invited to Kim Michaud's on 1/20/13 for a division council meeting. There will be a new member orientation on 1/22/13 at 5:15pm at Maine Eastern Railroad. The Scholarship committee has updated the scholarship application. They had about 50 applications last year. One more Interclub is needed for the “Early Bird” award. See Keith Wass if you'd like to go to Waterville next Monday, 1/21/13. Meals on Wheels: Jim Heavey has it tomorrow.
Recognition of Members:
Birthdays: Al McNeilly and Sandy Millar.
Secret Greeter: Carol Kelley caught many, including (but not limited to) Al McNeilly, Marianne Masters, Broo Temple, and Bill Packard. Badges: Marcy Wass didn't have her badge on. 50/50: Tom Luttrell didn't get the Joker, therefore he didn't win the $5 pot.
Marica Whitten was happy for Greg Hamlin and Barbara Hanson. Bobbie Knapp was hap for a full staff, happy to be back, and sad she was talking when Marcia Whitten was talking. Jim Heavey reminded everyone his last name is not “Harvey,” but he noted his name is descended from Harvey, and that it means “battle-worthy.” He was also happy to be participating in a polar plunge on 2/9. Jackie Harjula was happy for our guests, happy for Al McNeilly, happy for Bill Packard and Broo Temple's membership, and happy for an open mic night at church. Gordon Page was happy for a trip to NC, happy for Bill Packard as the speaker, and happy for Broo Temple. Sandy Millar was happy for the Biz After Hours. Sumner Kinney was happy for the Patriots. Al McNeilly was happy to be back, and happy to stay updated thanks to club bulletin editor Bill Batty, Jr. Katie Tarbox was happy for the Biz After Hours, happy for Jane Dagley and Camden National Bank, and happy her shop was relocating to N. Mn. St. near Wass's Hot Dogs.
Bill Packard is an author and entrepreneur. His latest business isbillpackard.com, a consulting/coaching firm to help small business. His ideal client is someone who has started a small business, grown it, and grown it to the point that the business runs them, instead of them running the business. He then comes along and helps out.
From your Spiritual Aims Committee:
“The entrepreneur is essentially a visualizer and an actualizer... He can visualize something, and when he visualizes it he sees exactly how to make it happen.”
~Robert L. Schwartz
