Rockland Kiwanis Club Meeting Minutes, 10/07/13
President Katie Tarbox called the meeting to order and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dan Saucier offered our invocation. Speaker Dan Wyman was our only guest.
Russ Cloutier is unable to continue as Meals on Wheels chair. A new chair is needed.
Dan Saucier will now be co-chairing the Christmas Tree committee with Everett Spear.
The Oceanside Key Club meets every Monday at 2:30, and will be installing new members and officers on 10/16.
RIF is doing their first distribution this year at Rockland Head Start on Wednesday from 9-10am.
The ELIMINATE jar was passed.
There is an e-waste project planned for November 9th from 9am-3pm at Penney's parking lot. Donations of food and cash will be accepted for AIO.
The Jingle Bell Express committee will meet at 5:30pm on Thursday at Trackside.
The fall training is in North Conway on November 22-24.
Recognition of Members Birthdays: Jim Huff. The birthday box is in need of replenishment.
Club Anniversaries: Gordon Page celebrates 21 years.
Secret Greeter: Gary Monroe caught Ev Spear, Cliff Blastow, John Batty, Jim Huff, Vanessa Richards, and Ray Comeau.
50/50: Keith Wass had the lucky card and cut the Joker! He won $187. President Tarbox also had a second drawing, and second prize won a lottery ticket.
Greg Hamlin was happy for his red jacket from last week, and happy for the Samoset's martinis. Keith Wass was happy to win the 50/50, happy for Sumner Kinney, happy for a boating trip, happy for Katie Tarbox and the good turnout, happy for Amy Pease, happy for Jackie Harjula, and happy to give his winnings to his wife Marcy so she might attend a writers conference. Jackie Harjula was happy for Cliff Blastow getting into projects, happy for a trip to MI, happy for Katie Tarbox, and happy for the Buddy Holly Story. Cliff Blastow was happy for the Taste of Thomaston from 11am-2pm on Saturday at Montpelier. Marcia Whitten was happy her nephew's wife had been promoted to Lt. Colonel. Wayne Keiderling was happy for Katie Tarbox, and happy to be showing his carvings at the Union Art League. Janet Page was happy for Katie Tarbox, and happy for Jackie Harjula. Tom Luttrell was happy for the RDNA basket social, and happy his son was playing soccer again. Jane Dagley was happy for Katie Tarbox's shoes, happy for our speaker, and sad her boyfried was sick; “Doctors make the worst patients.” Marcy Wass was happy for the 50/50 Keith won, happy for Katie Tarbox, and happy her brother bought J&B Printing. Sumner Kinney was happy for Katie Tarbox, happy for our new members, and happy for the Red Sox. Bobbie Knapp was happy for Katie Tarbox, happy for Jackie Harjula, and happy to be involved in the J. Edward Knight breast cancer walk. Vanessa Richards was happy to be taking over the hot dog wagon committee, and happy to be back after a 14k mile trip to AK. John Batty was happy for the new president and officers, happy for our new members, happy for Jackie Harjula, happy for the Aktion Club, and happy for the ELIMINATE project. Katie Tarbox was sad for the Clarke Island Boatworks fire, happy for her and Brian Tarbox's big pumpkins, and happy for Jane Dagley (her sponsor).
Speaker Dan Wyman of the Allen Agency spoke about the Affordable Care Act. His slide presentation did an excellent job summing up the intricacies in the new health care plan, and what must be done to fulfill the individual mandate.
