Road races, horseshoe pitching at Thomaston Fourth of JulyFirecracker runs, Cod Adams horseshoe tourney part of day's festivities
Thomaston — The annual Thomaston Fourth of July Firecracker 5-Kilometer Road Race and children's one-mile fun run will be Wednesday, July 4.
Registration for the runs will begin at 7:30 a.m., while the children's one-mile event will begin at 8 a.m. and the adult 3.1-mile race at 8:30 a.m. Both races are up-and-back styles starting and ending on Beechwood Street near Route 1 and the historic town business block.
Sign-ups for the races will be on Beechwood Street near Route 1 and the post office. Free entry for children under age 12 and t-shirt prizes. The adult entry fee is $10, which includes a t-shirt.

The Snows take over directing the races after the Allan family of Thomaston organized the event for years.
Lynn Snow said runners can preregister by emailing her their full name, gender, age, city and state. She will have bibs filled out that a runner will receive after payment at the registration table.
The Cod Adams Memorial Horseshoe Tournament will begin at 1 p.m. behind the business block on the Lura Libby School field. Donations will support the Thomaston Fourth of July. Prizes will be provided by the estate of Adams, a longtime, beloved director of the annual horseshoe tournament.
