River School Belfast  sails  The Wanderbird !

It was a cold and rainy send off, but Tuesday morning 8 folks from The River School , downtown's independent high school , set sail for Gloucester, MA.

5 students, Director Jamie Wilkinson, teacher Dan McCarthy and parent Holly McFaul threw on their trip packs  and trekked to the docks . They adventurously  boarded for their 4 day excursion.

The Wanderbird, of Belfast Harbor is a North Sea fishing trawler converted to a  long range expedition vessel.Captains Rick and Karen Miles run Wanderbird Expedition Cruises located downtown at 33 Main St.

After life boat  and safety lessons, the gang set sail.

River School Belfast, currently in its 5th year, relys on travel as an essential part of learning.  Past trips include Ireland, "road trip" to New Mexico and Costa Rica.

There is limited space in the River School's program for Fall 2012.

8th -12th grades are accepted.
