River Band in the Velvet Lounge
Rockland — Rock City Cafe's Velvet Lounge will present the Kennebunk River Band Saturday, Aug. 24. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rock City Cafe, 316 Main St.
Steve MacKinnon, a founding member of the popular Lower Village People, started Kennebunk River Band in 2004, and Emily MacKinnon joined as lead singer in 2008. The band has enjoyed players sitting in over the years including Jerry Saunders, back for a short time this summer from Nashville. The band has from two to seven or more players, depending on the venue.
Current members include Mike Conant on fiddle, bassist Kevin Ward, drummer Ron Breton, lead guitarist John Edwards and keyboardist Mark Gunther. The band’s style has been self-described as electric Americana folk rock — if the MacKinnnons play as a duo, they cover mellow female artists; if playing somewhere as a full electric band, then everyone jams, the rock influences come out, people start dancing and it might get loud.
There is no cover charge, but tipping the musicians is highly encouraged. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123.
