River Arts’ Members’ Show opens June 27

Jun 23, 2014
Joyce Eames Steel of Waldoboro is one of the River Arts members showing work in the annual Members Show.

Damariscotta — River Arts invites the public to the opening reception of its eighth annual Members Show Friday, June 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. The artwork submitted by members for this reflects “artist choice,” free from the constraints of a themed show. The 120 works on exhibit represent a wide variety of media and styles and include 10 sculptures. The exhibition will continue through July 24 at River Arts, located on Route 1.

Midcoast artists with work in the show include Christina Eckerson, Bob Richardson, Linda M. Norton and Amy Cornell of Camden; Pat Ryan of Cushing; Elaine Niemi of Friendship; Jack Kennedy and Petrea Noyes of Lincolnville; Kathi Peters of Morrill; Nancy Lee Lovley of Owls Head; William S. Jackson, Jerry Maxwell, Gwen Sylvester, Paul Karlsson and Jeanette Phillips, Rockland; Diana Dion of Rockport; Diane Horton of Swanville; Ed Botkin and Geoff Bladon of Tenants Harbor; Carolyn Whitaker of Thomaston; April White, Linda Sheppard and Kathleen Thornton of Union; Joyce Eames Steel, Robert Macdonald, Delly Schweighauser, Ted Mohlie, Delia W. Mohlie , Jean Kigel, Brooke Pacy, Rick Horton, Judith Mitchell and Sherry Holden Dec of Waldoboro; and Jeffrey Jelenfy and Joan Freiman of Washington.

The second annual fundraising art raffle with works donated by Noyes, Isabella Corwin, Kerstin Engman, Barbara Roberts and Sarah Wilde will be launched and local musician Dave Martin will perform during the opening. This year’s annual member celebration also will include a table with published books authored and/or illustrated by River Arts members, as well as the 2014 River Arts Program book full of classes offered and the full exhibition schedule.

In addition to the Members Show, visitors can view an exhibition featuring the artwork of Wally Schweighauser, watercolor and pencil artist who, at nearly 102, is still creating art, along with work by ceramic artist Tom Fontaine and Wally’s daughter, Delly.

River Arts is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit riverartsme.org.
