Riley School Auction to Benefit Scholarship Fund
On Saturday, November 2, Riley School will host its annual auction, featuring silent and live components, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the former Amalfi Restaurant, located at 12 Water Street in Rockland. The event will include heavy hors d'oeuvres and desserts from various local restaurants and bakeries, including 3 Crow, 40 Paper, Café Miranda, Rustica, L & H Burgers and Let Them Eat Cake. A cash bar will be provided by 40 Paper. The local musical group “Gone” will entertain guests, and Bruce Gamage, of Gamage Antiques in Rockland, will preside over the live auction. Admission is $25 per person, $40 per couple. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 207-691-5601 for an advance reservation, which includes one Grand Raffle ticket.
The Grand Raffle prizes are: a Penobscot Island Air two-hour scenic flight for four people; a one-year membership to the Point Lookout Fitness Center; and twenty pounds of lobster.
All proceeds from the Grand Raffle and the auction benefit the school’s Glenna Wade Plaisted Scholarship Fund, named for Riley’s late founder and director.
A few live auction items of particular interest are as follows: a diamond-and-opal 14-kt gold ring, valued at $1800, by local resident and world-renowned jewelry designer, Etienne Perret; a three-night stay in an upscale China Lake cottage; and cruises on the schooners Nathaniel Bowditch and Stephen Taber. The silent auction will feature well over one hundred offerings spanning the categories of legal and culinary services, artwork, gift baskets and certificates, spa treatments and much more.
Riley was founded in 1972 as the first independent elementary school in mid-coast Maine and currently enrolls more than seventy students, ages four to fourteen, from a dozen towns. The Scholarship Fund allows the school to continue to admit children from diverse backgrounds.
