Richard “Rick” Young passed away peacefully Aug. 25, 2014, at Pen Bay Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 28, 1958, the son of the late Wendall and Joanne (Vinal) Young.
Rick would grow up in Cushing and attend local schools and then went on to Thomaston High School. After high school Rick went on to a career in commercial fishing. Rick loved being on the water he would spend his younger years on a scallop boat before going on to buying his own lobster boat the F/V In the Red where he would continue his career.
Rick was never one to stay still he was always busy. He could be found cutting wood, or working on his gear, painting buoys you name it his was doing it. He was a hard worker and it showed.
Rick enjoyed raising pigs and did this for many years. He always loved to watch the pig scramble at the Union Fair and could be found there every year. Rick enjoyed being outside hunting, and fishing. He also loved to travel and was lucky enough to travel to such places as Hawaii and Jamaica as well as many trips to Florida in the winter time.
Survivors include his children, Jason Young and his fiance Jessica Wigglesworth of Cushing, Cassie J. Young of Rockport, Jackie J. Sproul and her husband Mike of Rockport; six grandchildren; brother, Donald Young and his wife Lisa of Cushing; nephew, Alec Young of Cushing; faithful companion and best driend DeeBo and good buddy Rick Ferrar.
A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service to begin at 7:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor Wayne Sawyer at Hall Funeral Home Thomaston, 78 Main St., Thomaston, ME 04861
