Richard N. Blackington
Pittston — Richard N. Blackington, 93, formerly of Camden and of the Arnold Road in Pittston, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at the Maine VA Health Care System at Togus.
He was born in Camden Dec. 8, 1919 a son of L. Kenniston and Viola F. Nelson Blackington.
A US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II with service in India, Burma and China, he received the Distinguished Unit Presidential Citation, and the Bronze Star. Richard was a graduate of Camden High School Class of 1938. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 30 of Camden, a member of the VFW 6131 of Northport, Am Vets of Yarmouth and the Burma Association. He had worked as a salesman for office supplies, at Bath Iron Works, as a grounds keeper and handy man in Camden for many years. He also had been employed for a painting contractor Norman Fuller of Camden.
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Theodora Berthold Blackington, who died in 2001.
His son Kenneth Blackington of Mesquite, Texas, two daughters Allana Bourgond of Mapleton, Illinois and Francis Ellis of McKinney, Texas, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, survive him.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, Feb. 11, from 11a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave. in Gardner, with a full military honors service to follow at 12:30 p.m. Burial be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Civic Center Drive in Augusta in the spring. Burial will be beside his wife.
