Auditioners should come prepared to sing something from the show or something rock ‘n’ roll-based. They should bring sheet music (preferred) or a karaoke track on a CD.
Due to the mature nature of this show (language, sexual content, mature topics), auditions are for high school students and older. Any teen younger than 18 will need a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian, provided at the auditions and turned in (signed by parent/guardian) with the audition form.
The ensemble will consist of approximately 15 to 25 people with the key roles being as follows. Angel is a transvestite street drummer infected with HIV; actor must have the ability to dance with a magnetic personality; vocal range is tenor, C3 to A4. Benjamin is the wealthy owner of Mark and Roger's building who wants to start a multimedia studio; vocal range is tenor, E-flat3 to F4. Joanne is a headstrong public interest lawyer and Maureen's lover; vocal range alto, B-flat3 to E5. Mark is a filmmaker and video artist determined to capture "real" life on film, and Roger's roommate; vocal range is tenor, C-sharp3 to G4. Maureen is a performance artist and Mark's ex-girlfriend; vocal range is soprano belt, C4 to F5. Mimi is dancer with AIDS and a drug problem, desperate for a place to feel safe and protected; vocal range is alto, F-sharp3 to E5. Roger is an edgy, struggling musician who is HIV-positive and hopes to write one last meaningful song before he dies; vocal range is tenor, B2 to A4. Tom is an HIV-positive computer genius, recently returned to New York after an absence, who has a deep capacity for love and understanding; vocal range is bari-tenor, vocal range F-sharp2 to A4, the latter a single occurrence of short duration.
