Record Turnout of Democrats at the John Syrett Lobster Bake

By Knox County Democratic Committee | Sep 09, 2012
Nancy Davis of Owl's Head and Congressman Barney Frank enjoy a sunny afternoon at the Lobster Bake.

The Knox County Democrats saw a capacity crowd at their recent summer fundraiser.  Over 200 people, including many of the more than 100 event sponsors, carpooled their way to Ken and Barbara Wexlers’ home in Owls Head for the annual green feast of lobster, scenery and Democratic unity.  Others not in attendance supported the event  as well with donations, making it the most successful Bake in its ten-year history.

The featured guest speakers were retiring 16-term Congressman Barney Frank and former Maine State Housing Authority Director Dale McCormick.

Also in attendance were Janet Mills, Vice-Chair of the Maine Democratic Party and former Attorney General; Maggie Allen, Maine’s National Democratic Committeewoman; Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison; Rockland Mayor Brian Harden and County Commissioner Carol Maines.

Congressman Barney Frank spoke from his vantage point as former chair of the House Financial Services Committee, relating how Republicans’ vow to make Obama a one-term president has slowed recovery from the financial crisis in this country, which crisis was caused by Republican policies during the George W. Bush administration.  Ms. McCormick in her remarks stressed the exceptionally clear choices we face in November and the need to work for the success of the Democratic slate of candidates.
