Radley takes role of Vinalhaven School athletic director
Vinalhaven — Vinalhaven School will have a new administrator overlooking the sports world this year, with island resident Kim Radley being appointed as the school's athletic director.
A 1988 graduated of Vinalhaven School and a former three-sport athlete for the Vikings, the 43-year-old Radley takes over for Jake Tuminski, who resigned the position in the spring.
Radley also studied a year at the University of Southern Maine.
Her first day on the job was July 1.
“It's a little overwhelming right now, but overall it's been wonderful,” said Radley. “I've had lots of support from everyone in the community, the coaches have been great and it's been really positive and I look forward to moving ahead.”
Radley is employed at Carver's Corner Market in Vinalhaven, with the two jobs being a lot for her to juggle.
“I knew I was going to have to learn a lot,” she said. “I played all three sports that were offered here at our school, so I had that background and the business part of it. But the logistics, the scheduling, the Maine Principals' Association, all the guidelines. There's a lot to it. And we live on an island, so do the kids get home by lobster boat or by ferry ... it's pretty demanding.”
Despite the workload, Radley said she is happy to have been appointed to the job and looks forward to the upcoming school year.
