'Race Against Bullying' 5K slated for Sept. 20Event held on Medomak Valley High School campus
Waldoboro — The inaugural “Race Against Bullying” 5-kilometer road race and one-mile fun run/walk will be held in conjunction with homecoming celebrations for Medomak Valley High School. The 5K will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, with the one-mile fun run/walk to begin at 8 a.m.
The 5K race will take place on the Medomak Valley nature trail, while the fun run/walk will take place on the MVHS track.
The race is sponsored by Regional School Unit 40, which previously held a poster contest in its effort to combat bullying, and now will host a road race.
RSU 40 representatives said when they began the project they had hoped to bring awareness of bullying and attention to the anti-bullying cause.
"Bullying has had an effect on almost every person at some point in their lives," said Sandra O'Farrell.
The entry fee is $20 with a t-shirt included, or $10 without a t-shirt included. Preregistration with t-shirt is $18. The t-shirts are sponsored by Hall's Funeral Home.
To register early, make checks payable to RSU 40 and mail checks to Sandra O'Farrell, 1154 Main St., Waldoboro, 04572.
