Popular bands headed to Midcoast
Two very different bands with very loyal followings will be playing in the area Saturday night, Oct. 19, and tickets are on sale and going fast for both shows.
Rustic Overtones at Billy’s
Rustic Overtones, a seven-piece Portland-based funk/rock band known best for its raw performance power, will perform beginning 8 p.m. at Billy’s Tavern, 1 Starr St. behind Thomaston’s downtown business block.
Widely considered to be one of the best acts to come out of Maine, the band has collaborated with David Bowie/Tony Visconti, Imogene Heap, Funk Master Flex and Eric Krasno; Rustic member Ryan Zoidis also plays with the bands Lettuce and Soulive. Recent awards include 2013 New England Music Award Best Live Act/New England, 2012 New England Music Award Best Band/Maine and a slew of Portland Phoenix bests.

Dead Season at Smokestack Grill
Power metal band Dead Season headlined this year’s Maine Monsters of Rock concert at the Lewiston Colisee, but Midcoast fans can get up close and personal with the Truman brothers and cohorts beginning 9:30 p.m. at the Smokestack Grill, 43 Mechanic St., Camden.
The power metal/alternative rockers are based in Oxford, producing music fueled by integrity, intensity, inspiration, intelligence and innovation. The band has played, by invitation, with Disturbed, Papa Roach, Quiet Riot, Killswitch Engage, Buckcherry, Nonpoint, Saliva, Lacuna Coil, Black Stone Cherry, Powerman 5000, Mushroomhead, Hatebreed, Chimaira, HED pe, God Forbid and more.
Tickets for the multiple WTOS Battle of the Bands winners are $10, two for $15, for the 21-and-over show; call 230-7135 to purchase. Doors will open at 9 p.m.
