Bachofner gets second term

Rockland — The City of Rockland and Rockland Public Library have announced that Carol Bachofner was named to a second term as Rockland Poet Laureate during the April 24 A Swarm of Poets event at the library. Nine local poets read their work in this penultimate event of Poetry Month Rockland, which coincides with April’s National Poetry Month.

Bachofner announced the adult and student winners of the “Windows, Doors & Mirrors” themed Rockland Poetry Contest. Children’s Contest winners are as follows. Category 1 (pre-K to third grade): first place, Mollie Vitale’s “Watching and Waiting”; second place, Gabriella Gibbons’ “Mirrors”; and honorable mentions, Greta Forti’s “Look” and Jaycob Widdecomb’s “Windows and Doors and Mirrors.” Category 2 (fourth to seventh grade) winners are, first place, Ella Finger’s “Mirror Moon”; and, second place, Mariah St. Clair’s “What’s Behind the Mirror.”

Teen Contest winners are: first place, Zoe Stonetree’s “Unreality Complex”; second place, Emma Spencer’s “If These Walls Could Talk”; and honorable mention, Raegan Goulet’s “It’s Open Up Here.”

Adult Contest winners are, sharing first place, Dita Ondek’s “Funhouse at Coney Island” and Hannah Magnusson’s “Beyond”; and, honorable mentions, Gayle Portnow’s “From My Windows” and Michelle Dee’s “Action.”
