April is National Poetry month! On Thursday, April 24th from 12-2pm, the Maine Coast Book Shop's MWW book club invites poetry lovers to welcome former Maine Poet Laureate, Betsy Sholl for discussion and lunch at the Firehouse Center in Damariscotta.  Elizabeth "Betsy" Sholl is an American poet and the first Poet Laureate of Maine. She was appointed by Governor John Baldacci to the position in 2006 and held it until 2011. She is the author of seven collections of poetry, most recently, Otherwise Unseeable ( April 2014) Her poetry has been published in numerous journals and magazines including Orion Magazine, Field, Triquarterly, The Kenyon Review, The Massachusetts Review, Ploughshares, and Beloit Poetry Journal. She has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maine Arts Commission.Ms. Sholl teaches at USM and in the low-residency MFA program at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.She has an MFA in poetry writing from Vermont College as well as an M.A. from the University of Rochester and a BA in English Literature from Bucknell University. She lives in Portland, Maine.

The Maine Women Write Book Club is open to the public.Purchase of Ms. Sholl's most recent book (in paperback and a 20% discount) is required to attend the event with the author, and sandwiches are ordered through the book store's cafe and delivered to the Firehouse Center at 5 Bristol Rd, Damariscotta, where the book club meets.Sign up to hear Betsy Sholl read from and discuss her new collection and join a thoughtful conversation about how a poem happens.
