Rockland — Members of the Rockland Professional Firefighters Local 1584 are wearing pink this October with a purpose. For the second year, the crew from the Rockland Fire Department has purchased pink Rockland firefighter shirts and will make a donation to the Susan G. Komen organization. The organization addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts, including research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives.

Last year they raised $300, said firefighter Carl Anderson, and they hope to raise more this year. The firefighters are allowed to wear the pink shirts on their shifts during the month of October.

The shirts are available for the public to buy as well. The cost is $20, with $10 from every shirt being donated.

To purchase one, call 594-0318 for information.
