Rockland — Nicknamed “Pie Town USA” by the Food Network after Bobby Flay visited for a pie throwdown, Rockland is living up to its name with the 9th Annual Pies on Parade Pie Tour to celebrate National Pie Day.

On Jan. 27, Rockland will go pie-crazy from 1 to 5 p.m. when the Historic Inns of Rockland are joined by 20 other Rockland businesses and restaurants to welcome hungry pie eaters to the town for the annual pie-a-thon to benefit the Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry. Forty different pies are served from one end of Main Street to the other.

Tickets are now on sale, but if history holds true, they will sell out before the event. Purchase tickets now from the Historic Inns of Rockland to assure a pie place on the tour.

This is not your average pie-in-the-sky tour. Move aside Mom’s apple pie; Rockland’s inns, businesses and restaurants will serve up everything from shepherd’s pie and a number of gourmet pizza pies to sweet and savory Italian galettes, seafood pies, whoopie pies and the LimeRock Inn’s Key LimeRock Pie. Each of the participating venues will serve both a savory and sweet pie, including a number of unusual galettes, tarts, quiches, pot pies, pizzas and even a grilled pie.

Best of all one can feel good about eating pie as all proceeds from this event stay in the Midcoast Maine community to feed hungry families. During the past eight years, more than $50,000 has been donated to the Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry & Fuel Assistance Fund from this event to help provide food and fuel for needy Midcoast families.
