Philly Roller Girls’ Phearleaders on WRFR
Rockland — Roller derby fans can hear a live interview with the Philly Roller Girls’ Phearlearders Tuesday, March 4, at 8 p.m. during “Jo & Cheech’s Radio Hour” on WRFR-LP. The show may be heard at 93.3 FM in Rockland, 99.3 FM in Camden or online at WRFR.org.
Rock Coast Rollers bout attendees are familiar with the RCR Jeerleaders, who cheer and perform halftime shows at the roller derby games in Rockport and Northport. It turns out jeering (or fearleading) for roller derby is a worldwide trend with squads everywhere including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York, Winnipeg, London and Sydney, to name a few.
After researching other jeerleading squads to create rcrjeerleaders.com, RCR jeerleader and WRFR DJ Cheech decided to invite fellow jeerleaders/fearleaders on her weekly radio program to discuss this phenomenon, starting with the Phearleaders of Philadelphia.
The Phearleaders dance and fearlead for the Philly Roller Girls, Philadelphia’s women’s flat track roller derby league. Started in 2005, the Philly Roller Girls are skater-owned and operated and are a proud member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.
Philly Roller Girls phearleaders Grudge Judi Justice and Vapor Eyes will join the interview, as will PRG skater Devoida Mercy. Members of the RCR Jeerleaders will be in the studio for the live phone conversation, as well, including Pom Pom De Terrible, The Falconer and Cherry Bomb Cheech.
