Performers coming out to welcome Medea Benjamin in Belfast on July 14

Waldo County artists, performers, and musicians are joining in the excitement of welcoming peace activist Medea Benjamin to the Shrine Hall on Northport Avenue this Saturday, July 14 at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will feature a talk by Ms. Benjamin about her new book, Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control. At 4 pm, guests will be invited to enjoy appetizers from Eric and Martha Goodale, wine, and political art by local artists including Rob Shetterly, Kenny Cole, Jude Spacks, Gary Hinte, and Squidge Davis, among others. Accompanying the art show will be Mary Ann Driscoll on piano.

A potluck supper starting at 6 pm will follow a talk by the author and book signing. At 7 pm, local theater director Larraine Brown will unveil a very Belfast performance arising from the joys and concerns of folks in this area. 7:30 pm will start a sing-along by the Tri-Peace Trio of Judd Esty-Kendall, Leslie Latour, and Larry Latour of Woody Guthrie songs on his 100th birthday. Birthday cake and icing, will be served and a walk through Belfast City Park will ensue to culminate the festivities.
