Pen Bay appoints new pharmacy director
Rockport — Pen Bay Healthcare announces the appointment of Tom Jurewitz as Pen Bay Medical Center’s pharmacy director.
Jurewitz will oversee organizational leadership for the Pharmacy department, facilitate staff development and organizational advancement.
Jurewitz has a breadth of healthcare experience in hospital pharmacy practice, retail pharmacy practice and healthcare informatics. He received his B.S. Pharm degree from Idaho State University in 1980 and is an active member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He recently served on the national advisory level at ASHP as a Special Advisory Group member for Clinical Information Systems and Ambulatory Care Informatics in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
Jurewitz is currently participating in ASHP’s Pharmacy Leadership Academy. This is a year-long, graduate level set of leadership experience activities, conducted by pharmacy industry experts and thought leaders. The course is designed to hone executive level leadership skills in the advancement of patient-centered pharmaceutical care and to serve as a platform for the future advancement and transformation of hospital pharmacy practice.
Jurewitz and his family have close family ties to Maine and are happy about their recent move from California.
“Pen Bay’s facility size and organizational structure are something I am very familiar and comfortable with in my career. I’ve followed Pen Bay for some time as a high performance organization and am pleased to now be here in Midcoast Maine and at Pen Bay. I particularly like our community size, texture, available activities; access to great schools and local cultural events!” he said in a news release.
Jurewitz replaces Jeff Kubel who retired from the director's position in May 2013. Jurewitz will also work closely with Gregory Abendroth who has served as interim Pharmacy director since Kubel’s departure.
