PAWS: 55 Care packages delivered!

Jan 01, 2013

From the smug look on his face you’d think Collin had not only bought 55 care packages but carted them over from Hannaford to the shelter all on his own! Actually what you would have heard him say had you been on the spot is “Meow-ow-yow” (That's “thank you,” for those of you who are not familiar with the feline patois).

That’s right: 55! That adds up to 550 pounds of cat litter, 55 rolls of paper towels, 110 cans of dog food, 440 cans of cat food and 1,320 ounces (Collin says to tell you that that is more than 40 quarts and we pass it on for what it’s worth, as we’re not too sure about his math skills — or ours, for that matter) of bleach. Tons of thanks (and never mind how many quarts) to the good people at Hannaford for putting them together and to all of you for donating them to the shelter. We were stepping in high cotton for a while there!

Actually Collin did a very commendable job of overseeing the arrival of the bags as well as the disbursement of their contents. Would it surprise you to know that the bleach and paper towels are almost all gone (just a small reminder of the amount of cleaning and laundry we do)? And if you think 440 cans of canned food will last for months, please stop in and see how many cats we feed. We can always use donations to help us keep the shelter sparkling clean and the animals well fed.

Say hello to our absolutely gorgeous little orphaned Annie. This sweet one-year-old is looking for a home with someone who can give her lots of love and attention, which she will return in spades. Her favorite things are playing with cat toys, looking out the window and, of course, being petted. And having someone count her toes.

We’re sure you’d like to know the people who help take care of the animals here at PAWS. For starters, meet Shelby, one of our shelter attendants. Shelby’s day begins with walking dogs and cleaning cat rooms, of which the Special is her favorite.

“The cats in Special are older cats, and many times they get overlooked because of their age,” Shelby explains. “ I like to give them a little extra attention before I’m done cleaning.”

We’d love to have you stop by and meet Shelby. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if she talked you into adopting one of her Special pets.

Be one of our “likes” on Facebook. See who’s up for adoption, who was adopted and all the other info our page.

We’re still looking for people to take cats to the banks and the animals to their vet appointments. Give us a call if you think this is something you’d like to do. We can tell you what it would mean to us: The majority of our adoptions come through the banks, so every day with no cats in the banks means a lot of chances lost for our darlings to find a home of their own. And thanks for considering it!

The New Year has started, but it’s still a good time to think about making it extra special for one of our beautiful beasties with a home and a family of their own. Look into your heart, and then your home, and see if there’s room for one of our darlings. They are a gift that never stops giving.

Please stop in and see us and all our gals and guys at 146 Camden St. in Rockport. We’re open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, our phone number is 236-8702 and pawsadoption.org is never closed! And thank you, as always, for your caring and support.
