Paula Sutton Maine State Senate District 12
Paula Sutton on the Issues:
I believe in a limited government.
I believe in fiscal conservancy, resource based decision making and personal responsibility.
I believe the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. What I mean by that is that less taxes should be taken from our pockets, sent to bloated government where elected politicians then try and make it seem like they are doing us a favor by sending back a small fraction of it to us in one form or another such as housing assistance vouchers or rebates.
I believe we need to take care of our own and I promote community based assistance programs.
There is duplication of services in our government which is wasteful and can be changed.
The cycle of generational theft and welfare dependence must be reversed. Maine’s disabled and aging citizens must be our first priority for scarce Government dollars. I understand everyone makes mistakes and anyone can be the victim of misfortune such as job loss and need temporary help to restore themselves to productivity but we must start holding our able bodied, working age citizens accountable for their actions and insist they accept and fulfill their responsibilities to themselves and their dependents.
Maine has many issues to be dealt with and many problems to be solved and I see those listed below as the most urgent. If there were easy solutions, none of these would be issues today. While I don’t pretend to have all the answers,
I do believe certain facts, values, and principles should be in the minds of all who seek to define the proper role for government in making improvements:
