Paul D. Fairfield
St. George — Paul Darryl Fairfield, 67, passed away Jan. 1, 2014, at home.
He was born April 8, 1946 in Manchester, Conn., the son of the late John Paul Fairfield and Ruby Virginia (Studley) Fairfield. He joined the Navy after graduating from Rockville high school in 1964 and was honorable discharged.
He worked as a machinist but his true love was boats and being on the water. As a teen he built his first boat with his father in the basement of their Conneticut home. After settling in St. George he started his own boat shop and over the years built many beautiful boats.
He was known as a perfectionist who believed if it wasn't done right it wasn't done. He was creative and an accomplished artist. He loved animals and always had at least one cat or dog. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children Betsy Fairfield of Lincolnville, Michael Fairfield and his wife Tina of Union, Neil Young and his wife Joyce of Massachusetts, Kristen Noyes and her husband Joe of Conneticut, Melanie Fairfield of Warren, Heather Long and her husband Dean of Warren; his brother Fernald Fairfield and his wife Mary of Islesboro; his grandchildren Hilary, Taylor, Devin, Olyvia, Micaela, Samanatha, Dustin, Danika, Colby, Jackson, Ruby, Paige and Cyndal; and his great grandchildren Justyce, Serenity, Caelynn, Sophiea, Malachi, Henry and Evelyn. He is also survived by a special friend Lu McCreadie of Hope.
Following his wishes his ashes will be spread at sea and a celebration of his life will be held later in the spring on Islesboro.
