Portland — An 18-year-old woman, who was a passenger in a car involved in a fatal collision that killed the driver March 20 in Warren, remains at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Olivia Blachet of Warren is in critical condition, according to the hospital's communications office March 25.

Dustin Kimball, 18, of Warren, also a passenger in the car, was discharged from Maine Medical Center March 21.

The vehicles involved in the crash, a Subaru Forester and a GMC Sierra pickup truck, hit head on when the truck, driven by 18-year-old Samuel Simmons of Spruce Head, crossed the center line and struck the Subaru, driven by Alison Low, 38, of Warren, said Chief Deputy Tim Carroll of the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Low died at the scene, said police.

Carroll said the investigation continues and it is unclear why Simmons' truck crossed the center line. Simmons was driving north and Low was driving south when the vehicles collided at 7:30 a.m. near Andes Variety.

There were no other occupants of Simmons' vehicle. Simmons was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center with minor injuries, said a press release from the Knox County Sheriff's Office. He was released from the hospital.

Alcohol and drug tests were done, but the results are not available yet, said Carroll.

Carroll also said at this time, there is no reason to believe Simmons was distracted by a cellphone.

Deputy Paul Pinkham of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating while Sgt. Ken Smith of the Rockland Police and Lt. Mike Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office are assisting. The investigation is ongoing, said the release.

Waldoboro EMS, Warren EMS and Thomaston EMS responded to the scene along with the Warren Fire Department.

I'd like to know why the driver of the truck hasn't been arrested yet.. Was his license taken away at the scene?

So so tragic.  My love goes out to Darrin (Woody) and Alison's daughter Cierra and her son Dustin and Olivia and the unborn baby. Alison was so looking forward to her new grandchild.
