Paper arts, oils and abstracts
Rockland — The Art Loft, a nonprofit community art center, will offer three more October workshops, two in the paper art and one that explores abstract art via watercolors and essential oils.
Silvia Carrier will lead an evening of Magical Pop-up Cards Thursday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will be guided step-by-step through the process of creating simple pop-up structures, three-dimensional cards that can be customized with their own designs. One can create cards for different occasions using the same pop-up mechanisms; there will be a variety of cards on display to get the creative juices flowing. Cost is $25, with all materials provided by the instructor.
Sunday afternoon, Oct. 22, Kellie Bailey and Tricia Magri will lead an Essential Oils and Abstract Art Workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will learn how pure essential oils can uplift mood, mind and spirit as they create abstract art pieces. Cost for the workshop is $25.
Carrier returns Thursday, Oct. 27, for a 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. workshop in Origami Boxes for all Occasions. A folded paper origami box, also called a masu box, is beautiful in its functional simplicity. A finished box makes a great hiding place for gifts and sweet treats, or it can help organize your craft and office supplies. Participants will fold three square sheets of paper to create a box with lid and a removable divider; and leave with two folded boxes and instructions to create more. Cost is $25, with all materials provided by the instructor.
Born and raised in Germany, Carrier has explored various art media and techniques, from watercolors, fabric painting, printing, paper arts to ceramics. She received her college degree in architecture in Germany, practiced architecture and worked as a graphic artist and as a K-12 art teacher. Her interest in ceramics and her architectural education led her to experiment with paper templates to develop her own clay slab-building techniques. While raising her two children, she set up her ceramic studio on North Haven. Carrier has taught a variety of workshops in ceramics and paper arts to children and adults.
